Vernal Blossom – Maibock

Vernal Blossom – Maibock
Maibocks are transitional seasonal beers that originated in Germany, and are still brewed there today! "Mai" is German for "May", and it coincides with the short Bavarian spring. According to the Oxford Companion to Beer, "in the Bavarian Alps, May is the brief season between the last thaw and the first bloom, when it is too cool to linger in the beer gardens, but already too bright to hide indoors in the beer halls." Maibocks are anywhere from a light amber to a deep golden color and are typically between 6-7% ABV. Our take on the Maibock here at Nine Mile is as traditional as it gets. We brewed it in late February, have been lagering it since early March. It is burnished golden in color, 6.8% ABV, with a medium-full body and a moderately sweet, yet decently dry, finish. Come be the first to taste this beauty!

Chuffed Up! – E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)
Another nod to delicious liquid across The Pond, this malt-forward, sessionable ale is delightful and perfect to lean into the cozier, colder months. An E.S.B. (short for Extra Special Bitter) is a traditional English-style ale that is malty, toasty, a bit nutty, and with a wisp of stone fruit underneath it all. If any of y'all are a fan of our House Pub Ale, think in that same vein... minus the chocolate-y Tootsie Roll kinda of discourse and with a bit more of a bite. Despite the name of the style, the "bitter" in the name is a bit misleading, if comparing it to a pale ale or an classic IPA... both of which have more bitterness than an E.S.B. Again, this ale have smidge of a bite, but only for balance and drinkability sake. Bulit on a base of Maris Otter, with touches of English crystal malts for nuance and color. Some classic U.K. Fuggle hops were used for balance while they toss off oaky/woodsy undertones. And last, but certainly not least, the same English yeast strain we use for the aforementioned House Pub Ale is utilized with this ale as well. Come on down and snag a pint of this quaffable gem with some of your best mates!

Statement Of Westy – West Coast IPA
If you’re new around these parts, then there are two things you should know about us here at Nine Mile Brewing: 1) We love a good ol’ West Coast IPA, and 2) We’ll never stop until we’ve made the best around! Join us in imbibing in our latest crack at the latter, our “Statement of Westy.”Like it’s most recent predecessor, SOW is crisp, clean, and (obviously) hop-forward—but we like to play around in the kitchen and keep folks on their toes. Our malt bill got a little bit of a facelift: now featuring a base malt designed specifically for IPAs from the folks over at Gambrinus Malting to provide balanced sweetness and body that allows our hops to really shine. In the kettle, Cascade, El Dorado, and Centennial CGX hops come together to give us plenty of bite, while a hefty dry hop of Cascade, Chinook CGX, and Columbus CGX provide a classically strong nose of citrus and pine that will have you thinking you’re sipping on the West Coast. Easy drinking and perfect for any occasion, make a statement today by ordering a couple of these bad boys!

The Scimitar – Red Rye IPA
May the Fourth be with you all!! We’ve got a banger of a beer going on tap today. Being the nerds that we all are, we put our heads together and came up with a Red Rye IPA to celebrate the holiest day in all of Star Wars nerdom. Enter from left stage, and named after Darth Maul’s iconic Sith Infiltrator starfighter… The Scimitar! Built on a mixed base of brand new Mars malt with a smidge of Pilsner to give it a lovely red/mahogany hue. A supporting cast of Dextrin, Flaked Rye, & Red Rye Crystal lend depth, nuance, & further color refinement. The hop trio of Bravo, Mackinac, & Strata CGX were dropped in classic kettle additions. Mackinac & Strata CGX were utilized again for a full, yet restrained, dry hopping regimen. A stalwart Chico yeast strain rounds it all out nicely while letting the malt characteristics & hop tones shine in equal measure. Except flavor/aroma notes of: assorted citrus, pine, light floral, & a touch of fruit punch. The malty backbone refines the edges and blends well with the hop profile. Quite balanced & damn tasty…Get yourself on down to the taproom today and snag some of the gem! Cheers, y’all!

Lithy – Lithuanian Farmhouse Ale
We're taking y'all back across the pond again to Eastern Europe nodding to centuries of tradition with our take on this varied continental style... Bulit on a mixed base of floor-malted Bohemian pilsner & white wheat with a supporting cast of golden naked oats, Munich, spelt, & acidulated malts. The trio of Lotus, Loral, & Bravo hops provide crisp balance and give off light tones of bright citrus & noble grassiness. Gobs of linden blossom honey from our pals over at Bare Honey (added to the mash, boil, & whirlpool) contributes added body, very slight nuance, & enzymes for the yeasties to do their excellent work. Speaking of... an assertive Lithuanian Farmhouse yeast strain from The Yeast Bay bestows most of the complex citrusy & earthy aromatic/flavor notes & makes it near bone-dry. Expressive, complex, super dry & still fairly full-bodied... this slapper of an ale gives off Spring-like vibes while we are yet in the clutches of cold. Come getcha some!

The trio of Lotus, MI Mackinac, & NZ Motueka lend their wonderful personalities to dry-hopping additions. Last, but certainly not least, a superb thiolized yeast from our pals at Omega Yeast Labs ties everything up and unlocks those lovely thiols in droves. Sol Intent – Thiolized New England IPA
We’ve got another slapper of a NEIPA for y’all right here. It’s bright & punchy, with massive tropical and citrus tones swirling into a cohesive, delicious hazed out ale. Built on a base of local MN Pilsner malt for a clean canvas. White wheat, malted oats, flaked wheat, flaked oats (all also local MN), and dextrin fill out the rest of the grist & body. Calypso hops in the mash get their lovely compounds unleashed in spectacular fashion, while Trident Salvo in the whirlpool adds its own considerable flair. Cashmere & Strata lend their talents to dry-hopping. And once again calling forth the powers of mighty thiols we utilized Omega Yeast Lab’s newest thiolized yeast strain, Helio Gazer, to full effect to get those overt fruit-forward notes to head to the foreground. Make this one your “sol intent” (or at least of of them!) while y’all are down here at the taproom!

As a tip of the hat & a big nod to traditional ales across the proverbial pond, we crafted up an English-Style Mild as our House Pub Ale! The malt bill is made up of 100 percent British malts. Maris Otter, Golden Naked Oats, Pale Chocolate, Crystal T-50, Dextrin, & Brown Malt meld together to offer up varied notes of toast, nuttiness, light toffee, Tootsie Rolls, & a wisp of roast. Mallet Mike’s Rye Porter - Collaboration with Mike the Electrician
Named after our electrician, Mike, whose mallet the production team borrowed often. The mallet itself actually fell into the mash accidentally while making this beer. Our head brewer, John, was flabbergasted to see it come out of the mash/lauter tun while he was graining out. Confusion turned to laughter & the name for this robust dark ale was born. Built upon a mixed base of stout malt and Maris Otter, which provide a smooth & slightly nutty canvas to layer specialty malts. White wheat, dextrin, & a mix of varied roasted & caramel malts give off color, complexity, & nuance. Moderate doses of flaked & crystal rye lend a light dryness & blend well into the whole.
